Danish major Nordisk Film has signed an agreement with Scandinavian production company Miso Film to distribute Miso films and television series in the Nordic countries, and participate in the development and production of Miso projects.

Copenhagen-based Miso, which also operates in Sweden and Norway, will deliver, among others, 438 Days, scripted by Swedish screenwriter Peter Birro from Swedish journalistsJohan Persson and Martin Schibbye’s bestseller about their time in an Ethiopian prison, and a screen adaptation of Iqbal Farooq, from Danish author Manu Sareen’s bestselling children’s book.

Upcoming television series include Acquitted, from Norwegian director Geir Henning Hopland (Lillyhammer), with Norwegian actor Nicolai Cleve Broch and Swedish actressLena Endre in the leads, and Vik/Stubø, from Peter Thorsboe and Mai Brostrøm’s screenplays based on Norwegian author Anne Holt’s five novels following criminal profiler Johanne Vik and Oslo detective Adam Stubø.

In another move, Nordisk Film has extended its output deal with US producer-distributor Summit Entertainment to encompass the Lionsgate catalogue for the Nordic countries, following Lionsgate’s recent acquisition of Summit.

“The new agreement provides us with a stable and assured pipeline of some of the most commercially exciting films in the world from a studio that is emerging as a major force in the global market place,” said Nordisk’s head of independent film, Peter Philipsen.

Nordisk launched Summit’s biggest franchise, The Twilight Saga, to take 4.6 million admissions in the Scandinavian countries; more recently, the company released Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, achieving an impressive initial figure of more than 1.1 million tickets sold.
